Burnley Climate Week

Vital Synergy Leads Innovation

Burnley Climate Week was a powerful reminder of how collaboration, innovation, and education can drive real change. As proud sponsors of this inspiring event, we at Vital Synergy were thrilled to support a day dedicated to sustainability, circular economy principles, and actionable insights for businesses across Lancashire.

Held by Chamber Low Carbon, the event brought together thought leaders, industry pioneers, and passionate professionals; all committed to building a greener future.

Why Burnley Climate Week Matters

Burnley Climate Week is more than just a calendar event. It’s a platform for businesses, educators, and innovators to share ideas, showcase sustainable practices, and explore the circular economy. For us at Vital Synergy, sponsoring this event aligned perfectly with our mission to lead the way in low-carbon solutions and green energy initiatives.

The theme of the day, “Embracing the Circular Economy: Turning Waste into Opportunity”, was not only timely but essential. As climate challenges grow, so does the need for smarter resource management. The circular economy offers a blueprint for reducing waste, rethinking production, and regenerating natural systems.

A Day of Insightful Presentations

Throughout the day, we had the privilege of hearing from several organisations that are making sustainability a core part of their operations. Each presentation offered unique perspectives and practical strategies that businesses can adopt to reduce their environmental impact.

University of Central Lancashire (UCLan)

The team from UCLan kicked off the day with a compelling presentation on academic research and its role in driving sustainable innovation. They highlighted how universities can act as incubators for green technology and policy development. Their work in renewable energy, waste reduction, and sustainable design is helping shape the next generation of eco-conscious professionals.

The Senator Group

We heard from The Senator Group, a leading furniture manufacturer that’s redefining sustainability in the workplace. Their approach to circular design, where products are built to last, repairable, and recyclable, was truly inspiring. They shared how they’ve reduced landfill waste by repurposing materials and implementing closed-loop manufacturing systems.

Recycle IT

Recycle IT brought a tech-focused perspective to the conversation. Their presentation focused on the lifecycle of electronic waste and the importance of responsible recycling. They demonstrated how businesses can safely dispose of IT equipment while recovering valuable materials and protecting data. Their commitment to ethical recycling practices is helping reduce the environmental footprint of the digital age.

CoolVan Ltd

Finally, CoolVan Ltd showcased their innovative work in sustainable transport. Their electric refrigeration vans are revolutionising cold chain logistics by cutting emissions and improving energy efficiency. They discussed the challenges of transitioning to electric fleets and the opportunities it presents for reducing carbon output in delivery services. We even got a tour of one of their refrigerated vans, which offered a hands-on look at the technology underpinning their commitment to cleaner, greener logistics.

Our Role as Sponsors: Why Vital Synergy Got Involved

At Vital Synergy, we believe that sustainability isn’t just a buzzword, it’s a responsibility. Sponsoring Burnley Climate Week was a natural extension of our values and our ongoing efforts to support low-carbon initiatives across the region.

We’ve been actively involved in promoting green energy solutions, from heat pump installations to energy-efficient systems for homes and businesses. Events like this allow us to connect with like-minded organisations, share our expertise, and learn from others who are equally committed to environmental stewardship.

Being part of Burnley Climate Week also gave us the chance to showcase our recent rebrand and reaffirm our dedication to sustainability.

John Holt’s Speech: Driving Change from Within

One of the most memorable moments of Burnley Climate Week was a powerful speech delivered by our Change Manager, John Holt. Speaking on behalf of Vital Synergy, John shared our journey of transformation and our commitment to sustainability.

He highlighted the internal changes we’ve made to embrace circular economy principles, improve operational efficiency, and support community-focused initiatives.

His message was clear: meaningful change starts from within, and Vital Synergy is proud to be leading that change across Lancashire.

Workshop: Learning Through Creativity

One of the highlights of the day was the interactive group activity focused on the circular economy. We were split into two teams and tasked with mapping out the inputs and outputs of making crisps, from muddy water in the factory to crisps arriving at local shops.

This exercise was more than just fun, it was eye-opening. It helped us visualise the entire lifecycle of a product and understand how each stage can be optimised for sustainability. We discussed everything from water usage and packaging waste to transportation and retail distribution.

By breaking down each component, we saw how small changes, like using biodegradable packaging or recycling wastewater, can have a big impact. It was a creative and engaging way to reinforce the principles of the circular economy.

Key Takeaways from Burnley Climate Week

Burnley Climate Week left us with several powerful insights:

  1. Collaboration is key. No single organisation can solve climate challenges alone. Partnerships between academia, industry, and government are essential.
  2. Innovation drives progress. From electric vans to circular furniture design, innovation is at the heart of sustainability.
  3. Education empowers change. Workshops and presentations help businesses understand their impact and take meaningful steps toward improvement.
  4. Sustainability is a journey. It’s not about perfection, it’s about progress. Every small step counts.
